Backpacking to Thomas Lake Thunder and Lighting camp

We left the house on Thursday afternoon, and hiked in to camp. Wesley had a fit because we had to wake him up to hike in. Everything was beautiful, the food awesome, and the company could not have been better. Porter was our camp fisherman. He caught the only fish this weekend. Dyers, Lacher’s, and the Baldwin’s arrived on Friday at about 6:30 pm.

They got their tents set up, dinner cooked, and we just started to sit around the camp fire to enjoy the cake I baked, and tell stories, talk, etc. The campfires are the best. Rick and I looked at our barometer watches, and then the sky……………pressure was falling, sky was darkening, lightening striking, thunder roaring, and then the rain started. Rick, Doug and Casey had just put up their tents, and now we had to tear everything down and get out to safety. We packed like mad, and hiked like the wind. We were all soaked to the bone.

Lightening was flashing and cracking right over our heads, and all around us. The forest lit up like it was day light. The Thunder clapping so load it hurt our ears, and scared little Wesley as I ran with him in my arms to the truck.

We arrived home safe and sound at 11:30 pm on Friday. I would not have stayed home and missed this adventure for anything, however it would have been glorious to stay another night with my family and friends.
