Kim Wood visit, and Halloween

My good friend Kim and her husband Mike came to visit and we went to the beach with them for a couple of nights.Porter helped Grandpa take the pumpkins off the front porch and move them to the barn for our annual barn party.   This year Casey had some bowling pins and we threw pumpkins down the alley to knock them over.

Sleep Over

The Hill girls wanted to spend the night with Grandma and Grandpa.   This was the first time Evelyn did this.   I was worried she might not stay but she did and it was a great night.   They didn’t bring their Jammies so they wore some big shirts we bought while we were in Ensenada,MX,  Cute, cute, cute,   Grandpa and his famous sourdough pancakes were a highlight of their morning.     HURRY FOR SLEEPOVERS!!!  

Yosemite

I have always wanted to go to Yosemite National Park.    This was the year.   We got airline tickets, our friends, the Dyer’s came, and we had some beautiful condos to stay in.   We were so excited then our country had a shutdown and all the national parks and government buildings were closed for almost 3 weeks.   The week our reservations were for was one of the weeks.    We went anyway since we could not get our money back at such a late notice.   Here are some of the attractions we saw as we tried to fill our 5 days with anything, except. . . . . . .  the       Yosemite valley.   Some of the highlights were the mighty redwood trees.   Standing by them really is majestic.Off the side of the road we could see some of the fabulous granite rocks.    Verne is taking a picture of El Capitan.  We could see the formation that is know as Half Dome also.   No one was around, everything was closed.    Grasping for things to see we went to Fresno,CA and visited the Kearney Mansion built by the man who started the raisin industry in California.   We liked to see the entrance  of the property lined with palm trees and other plants that grow so well in this area.We stopped for a bite to eat at FORKS.  This little restaurant by BASS LAKE was made famous from a Movie with John Candy and Chevy Chase called “The Great Outdoors”  After the meal the waitress gave us our two forks.   Which are now part of our wind chime in the back yard.   Now, off to Sutter Mill where gold was found in CA. in 1849.   This is Sacramento, CA A walk around town and site seeing some old historical home and bridges.  We tried to find fun and we did pretty well.
