Saturday morning after mopping the floors, vacuuming, and pruning some plants, we thought since it was such a beautiful day we should go for a hike. At the end of Vaughn street, about 26th, is Forest Park. A choice of 2.5 miles and 5 miles. We got to the Audubon building and the trail was a little unclear. So at 2.6 miles we turned around and went back. It was a nice hike and somewhere we had never gone before.Along the path is an old rock bathroom built by the WPA during the depression. It was damaged by the “Columbus Day Storm” in 1962. The city couldn’t afford to fix it and it fell into disrepair. At the Audubon building they had plants and animals native to the area and protected by the Gov. A little gift store inside and back down the trail we go. Never forget, you are always connected on this hike. We couldn’t resist these two hikers using their cell phones on the side of the trail. I asked them if they were talking to each other. At the end of the trail, (and the beginning) was 72 steps up to Thurman St. Bridge. We both went up and Verne stayed up for a photo-op. After two and one half hours (not bad) we made our way back to Meriwether’s Restaurant for a late lunch. What a gorgeous and fun day. This has really been a beautiful Summer.
